Inclement Weather Policy
EKU Pools staff members use web-based technology to receive inclement weather alerts for severe storms, lightning strikes, and tornado warnings and watches. The pool will close when lightning strikes occur inside a 10 mile radius of EKU’s campus or when tornado watches or warnings are in effect. Patrons must clear the pool and deck areas immediately. Please assist our lifeguards in clearing the pool and deck areas when asked to do so. Patrons may congregate in the locker rooms or areas outside of the pool deck until the pool opens. Showers will be unavailable while the pool is closed during thunder and lightning storms.
The pool may reopen 30 minutes after the last lightning strike within 10 miles of campus or tornado watches and warnings have expired. If inclement weather closures occur during the last hour of an event or swim session, the pool will close for the remainder of that event or session. Inclement weather may also cause a delay in opening the pool. Please check the EKU Pools Facebook page (@EKUPools1) for updates during inclement weather.
